  • In the late afternoon of February, with the winter sun hanging low in the sky, a father and his three children walk on the frozen surface of Lake Skanatati. In the distance an ice fisherman patiently waits to catch what might be his evening meal.

  • My good friend Anthony Labriola, a screenwriter with whom I spent four years at the School of Visual Arts, was kind enough to invite me to his family's upstate property in New York. Being that it was my first time there a small tour of the surrounding scenery was in order so we loaded ourselves into the ATV and took to the snow covered roads. As we were driving past a clearing I noticed two hunters, what looked to be a father and son returning for the day. The larger of the two figures could be seen wearing a bright orange vest which stood out even in the dense cover of the trees. Signaling for Anthony to stop I steadied my camera as I climbed into the back of our vehicle. I wanted to wait until the pair had strode out from the forest and into the field far enough that they and that high-visibility vest really stood out within such a dramatic environment.
