Greg Sohn; Artist
While in college at the School of Visual Arts I briefly knew an artist by the name of Greg Sohn. It must have been around five or so in the evening and he and I were sitting, conversing in my room; Greg was quietly strumming his guitar to add some noise during the pauses. The sun was going down behind a thinly overcast sky and this caused some of the most striking light I had experienced in the interior of my roughly, eight by twelve foot dorm room. Luckily I had my Mamiya C330 nearby and so I set up a tripod and started snapping. The light had such a particular quality, it was dark in my room yet what the light fell on seemed to be brighter than it should have been. I still remember the feeling. The image has striking contrast and yet maintains a smooth tonal grading along the neck of the guitar. Since that day I've always kept my eye out lookin' for that light.
